One of my very favorite Fall activities as a child was jumping on the trampoline. These brothers enjoy it too, wouldn't you say?

Baby Brother is 3!

Can you believe it?! Baby Boy is THREE years old!

Not only is he not a baby anymore, but I guess he isn't a toddler either. {sniff, sniff}

It's okay though. I wouldn't have it any other way, for I know well how very blessed we are.

Nathan is such a joy and adds a bright spot to our days. He's very animated and opinionated. He likes to tell "jokes" and play with mini figures. He's independent, yet cuddly. He still likes his blanky and is not the least bit interested in potty training. His eyes sparkle and his dimples are deep. He says the most grown up things at the funniest times. He likes his chore of feeding our cats. His k's sound like t's {kitty cat is titty tat, car is tar} and his g's sound like d's {Grandma is DamMa :/ and Gracie is Dacie} He fights going to sleep and then sleeps with his eyes open. He is a meat eater and a sweet eater. He loves to run with the big boys and can be a little bossy. He startles easily and pouts his lip when he's sad....

...Oh how I love this sweet boy, let me count the ways....

All Things Boy

Lately, Craig and I have felt a strong calling towards all things BOY. I guess you could say it's about time right? Seeing as how we have three sons... Well yes, we've had the calling for some time now, but we're just starting to come to a place where we are seeing and acknowledging that calling more fully I suppose.

The other day we found this fantastic website called JM Cremp's Adventure Store for Boys. They offer any and every thing a boy could possibly need for adventure. I can't even begin to list it all. You'll just have to click on the link and check it out for yourself. If you have boys to shop for, it would be a great place to consider. And the best part is....it's a family owned company seeking to honor God.

I do not know this family, nor am I being paid to say these things. (Ha! I wish!) I haven't even ordered anything yet, but I probably will soon. It's cool stuff.

Reality {and the beginnings of a Home Tour?}

I think you get to know someone better by being in their home. I'm sad to admit that I rarely entertain in our home. It is not because I do not have countless good examples. My mother has always been a lovely hostess and throughout the years her home has been a place people enjoy visiting. It's never been about the house itself, but the people and life lived there. My mother-in-law is also a great example to me when it comes to entertaining. Her home is regularly filled with family and friends alike.

So what is it with me?

Pride? Perfectionism? Fear? Laziness? Busy-ness?

All of the above?

Probably.

So while I'm thinking that YES, indeed, I do need to overcome those things and just change my ways....it also gave me the idea to slowly but surely invite each of you to "visit" our home through pictures. Imperfections and all...

Now on to my post.........

Do you ever get completely overwhelmed with clutter? You can't even figure out where to begin to clean up. I often get this way and consequently, so do the boys. I really wish we would be better examples for them. There comes a point when they flat need help getting things back in order, so that they can keep things neat again. Too bad I don't have someone who can help me do the same with my stuff! :)

So a couple of weeks ago I decided it was time.

Here is what a portion of the big boy's room looked like on a pretty good day...(note: it did NOT look this good on the day I got fed up!)

I took everything out and really cleaned.  This is what was in the living room for a few hours....and it did get worse before it got better.

....and this is what we ended up with....minus the mats that I had not yet put back down.

I tried my best to talk them into parting with the cardboard truck,trailer and police car that is setting on the dresser. It clearly isn't time yet....

I didn't even bother to ask if I could dispose of the sticker collection gracing the wall behind the fan yet....I know one day all too soon they will be ready, and who knows....when the time comes, maybe I won't be!

I find it amazing that when things are all cleaned up, there isn't nearly as much as it seemed like before. I will say though...all told, I carried out two kitchen trash bags of garbage and more kid's meal toys than I care to admit.

It feels good to get a fresh start...hopefully the feeling will spread itself throughout the rest of the house.

A girl can hope right?

Possum Holler

Andrew is a hoot. He has been cracking us up since the day he could talk. He's been pretending to be an opossum for almost as long.

Why an opossum?

I do not know, but if you asked him what his favorite animal is....he MIGHT just say "Possum." He sometimes thinks he is one...

I love him! He makes me smile.

Painting

Recently, Craig has been taking care of a few things around our home that have needed attention. After the boys finished their book work one day, he let them help paint our old garage/shop. They were excited to get to do that and did a great job. As you can tell, it looked REALLY bad to start with, so it was perfect for them to "practice" their painting skills on. There is probably not anything they could have done that would have made it look any worse. I am grateful to Craig for his willingness and patience in having their help. I'm not sure I could have done it!

This is a great example of why I love homeschool!

Oh, and little mister. You didn't think he painted did you? We might be laid back, but not that laid back. After his nap, he ran around "tending" something. He looks like a real high stepper in this picture, but really he was just coming down off a ladder.

This Little Light of Mine

Today I want to share a video of my sweet 11 year old niece, Gracie, singing a song called "This Little Light of Mine" by Addison Road. Gracie loves to sing. You may have seen and heard video of her singing with her older brother, Gillan, before. This time it is all Gracie though, and I think she did a beautiful job!

Un-official Beginning of Fall and a Recipe

Time sure does fly, doesn't it?

Yesterday was Labor Day, marking the un-official start to Fall. What a beautiful day it was too!! It was such a sweet reminder of God's faithfulness. We've come through the most oppressive summer in my lifetime, with more days of triple digit heat than not. Then, like a precious, unexpected gift wrapped in blue skies and a crisp breeze, it comes.

Fall.

It is my absolute favorite time of year! I only wish it would last a tad bit longer than it generally does... I just had to pull out one of my fall scented candles. I have been holding off on any decorating, but if this weather sticks around, I won't be able to wait much longer.

Another thing that I like about Fall is the food. Well, I like food year round, but you know....

One of my favorite recipes, Pumpkin Muffins, came from my friend Reba. {Thank you Reba!} If you would like to read her instructions, which are more thorough than I will take the time to do here, you can click on her name and be redirected to her page.

PUMPKIN MUFFINS

Ingredients:
1 can pumpkin

1 box spice cake mix  
(I sometimes use yellow mix with a few dashes of spices for a less spicy version that the boys like better.)

1 bag cinnamon chips
(I find that half a bag is plenty! These are not always easy to find, but our local-ish store, Homeland, carries them. You can go to the Hershey's Website to find the closest available, or order them online. Totally worth it, I promise! Even non-pumpkin lovers love these muffins.)

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Pour ingredients into a bowl and stir until moist.
3. Line or grease or spray muffin pans (the size of your choice).
4. Scoop or spoon "batter" into the tins until flush with the pan.
5. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
6. Enjoy!

Let's Tell Jokes

My intent is to rotate posts about the boys...but this one is just too funny not to share. Nathan likes to listen to and tell jokes. One of his favorites is the Knock Knock joke that goes like this...

In this video I was attempting to get him to tell me this joke, but it went horribly wrong at my expense.

Timmy

Back in about April or so, we found 3 kittens in our back yard. Unfortunately, their mother had died shortly before we found them. We decided to keep two of them and gave the third one away. This is what Timmy looked like a few days after we had nursed him to health...

The other kitten was a sweet calico that Josh adored and named J.J. Sadly, she was attacked by a stray dog and didn't make it. We quickly replaced her with another kitten from a friend. Her name is Lucy, and maybe I will introduce her sometime.

Back to Tim....this is what he looks like today.

I don't really think these pictures do justice in showing how much he has grown. He is going to be one BIG cat! I think he looks like a Tiger and have found myself growing quite fond of him.

When I was a little girl, I was very much a cat person. As a young adult, my affection for them waned...but I see it returning. Don't worry...I probably won't become "the crazy cat lady."

The cats do stay outside. This poses a slight problem though. Other cats (and skunks and who know what else) are attracted by the food. We've had to modify the way we feed them, and try to sit with them while they eat for the most part.

Otherwise.....

we WILL be "the crazy cat people."

Oh well...good hunters they will be.
